NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

After a lifetime of anxiety and bouts of depression, I turned to psychedelic therapy to confront deeply rooted mental health challenges. This experience revealed surprising breakthroughs and a renewed sense of possibility, unlocking changes I once thought were out of reach. Every mental health journey is unique, but I’ve found that psychedelics, paired with intentional life choices, brought unprecedented transformation. This film reflects that journey, an
exploration of healing, self-discovery, and the hope that even the most persistent struggles can be met with growth.

THE GIRLS WE WERE is a story that embraces the messiness of being human and celebrates the beauty of resilience and rediscovery. It’s about letting go of the past by confronting it, reclaiming the narrative of our lives, and finding the courage to reconnect with what matters most: our relationships, ourselves, and the natural world.
